Interview with Adriane Maxwell of One Healing Touch: Nurturing Wellness Through Reiki and Massage

Adriane Maxwell is a Licensed Massage Therapist and professional Reiki Healer based in North Charleston, SC. Through her nurturing and compassionate approach, Adriane supports women navigating physical, emotional, and spiritual transitions with healing practices that restore balance and inner peace. In this interview, she shares her journey, the benefits of energy work, and practical advice on maintaining a healthy energetic balance.


Q: Could you tell us a bit about your journey into energy healing and what inspired you to pursue it professionally?

After working as a 911 Emergency Dispatcher for over a decade, I was finally in a place to explore something new. People would often tell me they felt comforted by my hugs or struck by the strength of my handshake. Many would say, “Have you ever thought about becoming a massage therapist?” At first, I brushed it off. But after hearing it so often, I decided to look into it.

During a challenging time, I relocated to Fayetteville, NC to start over. While working night shifts at Fort Bragg, one of my cousins introduced me to a Therapeutic Massage program at the local community college. I worked nights, went to school during the day, and somehow made it all work — as a single parent, far from my support system. Ten months later, I completed the program and returned to South Carolina, where I earned my massage therapy license.

Massage therapists are required to take continuing education, and I kept hearing about “Reiki” as a good option. I had no idea what it was, but it sounded accessible and aligned with my budget. I found a Reiki Master in town, completed her two-day training — and the rest, as they say, is history.


Q: What healing modalities do you offer, and do you have a personal preference?

I’ve been a Licensed Massage Therapist and Reiki Practitioner since 2015 and recently became a Usui Holy Fire III Reiki Master. I’m also certified in Access Consciousness Bars.

My approach is integrative — I often blend Reiki with massage in a single session. This creates a deeper experience that supports healing on all levels: physical, emotional, and spiritual. I tailor each session to what the client needs in that moment, offering a personalized and intuitive treatment every time.

Q: What are some common challenges clients bring to you, and how does energy healing help?

Most of my clients come seeking relief — but also comfort, peace, and a safe place to land. Sometimes they don’t even realize how much they need nurturing until they receive it. Energy healing is a gentle, non-invasive way to meet those needs. It provides space to release what’s heavy and receive what’s supportive.


Q: As someone who helps others heal, what self-care practices do you prioritize?

I hear this a lot — “It must be emotionally draining to be a healer.” But for me, I make it a practice to let energy move through me, rather than absorbing it. Setting clear intentions is key. I also meditate regularly and have a strong personal self-care routine. Those practices are non-negotiable.

Q: Do you have any advice for readers seeking balance and positive energy?

Yes — let go of the idea that you have to be 100% positive all the time. That’s not realistic. We're here to experience the full spectrum of emotions. If you try to bypass the difficult ones, you miss the richness and depth of what it means to be alive. You can’t fully appreciate the sunshine if you’ve never known the rain.
